November 28, 2012 in class we talked more about our new projects then went to the library to learn how to find books, and to find the books we need for our project. In my group I have Brandon and Ryan, for the project we are going to talk about D-Day during World War II. How the technology, airborne, and a certain battle changed the whole war. Finding the books wasn't too hard, although what makes it hard is when people move the books from where they should be, and then finding a book turns into hard work. Other than the library we really didn't do much in class today.

Class on Wednesday, November 7, we first went over our rough drafts that we turned last week.  I was glad that we got them because I really wanted to see how I did on this paper. When looking at the comments I realized I had a lot to work on. Then we went into the fairy tales, that were due and we had a neighbor read them and right down if we had everything. Then we started watching the movie twilight and the show vampire diaries. The movie and show are really popular so I have heard of them before but being a guy I really don’t like them all that much.

Wednesday, October 31^st, we came into class with our two page rough drafts done, for our research paper. We split into groups of five, to discuss and read each other’s paper, and give our feedback on them. After, I looked at the comments the readers made about my paper. When looking at the responses I realized that my paper need some work. My thesis is unclear, and my argument wasn't really told. I these group things that we do because it helps find more of my errors, before turning in my paper to be graded, but other than those problems, the paper over all was alright.

We didn’t have class on Wednesday, October 24, instead we had a conference discussing the thesis and sources we were using in our research paper. When discussing my sources it was clear that I was doing them and researching them correctly. Although doing my research before my thesis statement, which really screwed up my interpretation of the song. But my sources were reliable; I had to figure out how to do my thesis statement, without using anything that I had gotten from the research. The meeting overall was good, and I think we should do more of them, when writing our papers.

Thesis Statement

The film “8 mile,” is about a white boy, named Marshall Mather’s, just wants to be a big known rapper. It’s hard to do in the heart of Detroit, MI, where he grew up right off 8 mile road. For him to get to the top in the music industry, you have to start at the bottom, doing small rap battles. Marshall gets the name “Rabbit” from others he hangs around, and at the end of the movie he goes off on his own, becomes famous, working with Dr. Dre, and becoming known as “Eminem.”  Although what motivated him to become who is, how did the people he hanged around affect his life, and how does Hallie affect his life as well?

Class on Wednesday was really busy and crazy, due to the fact that class was canceled last Tuesday. We started with a mini pop quiz about the article and blog we had to read, based on the movie “Carrie.” I did well, I guess, I really didn’t read the article, I skimmed it, just because it was so long. Then we talk more about them after the quiz, then talked about a group assignment, then assigned it, and then we told it was due next Monday. I didn’t really like that due to the fact we trying to cram stuff in because of class being canceled Tuesday.

Class on Wednesday we watch a movie and had to fill out a worksheet. And the movie was very graphic and gross. In the beginning, it took place in the girl’s locker room in high school. And the girl who is getting picked on in the shower because she just started her first period and she didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t think that scene of the movie was very necessary. We had to fill out a worksheet describing important key points that happened in the movie. Overall the class was good and looking forward to the weekend.

Class on Wednesday was good and we did a lot of stuff. In the beginning of class we went over the other stories. The story was really good and I liked it. We review more about “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” We talked about how the way they wrote the first part of the book and discussed. This was a good talked about the book and I liked it a lot we got to describe how they wrote it feeling like a science class. After that class was good and then we had the weekend tot look forward too.

In class Thursday we had a discussion about a short story we had to read in class. The story wasn’t that bad but maybe a little graphic. Then we were split up into groups and had to discuss it with our classmates in our groups. I really don’t like group assignments but this wasn’t that bad. During that we also discussed it as a class during which was good. At the end of the discussions we were told to go back to our seats. Also in the beginning of the class we did more with our poems. Overall class was good and we got out early which I like a lot!

In class Thursday, September 13, we went over more about the logs on blogger. Later in class we read poems “Courage’s Dreams Concern” by Jack White and “Where I’m from” by George Ella Lyon. After reading the poems we had to make a list of keys lines or words that stuck or that were interesting to us and share them with class. Then we had to make a list of all the things that remind us of home and after that we shared it with the class. At the end of the class the homework was to read “Decoded” by Jay-Z and write a one page poem about where we are from.

Also in the song he trying to he was recovery from his drug addictions such as in album "Encore" when he was doing drugs and his album "Relapse" is about him flushing all the drugs out of his system. At the beginning of the song he talks about his friend Proof who was killed and how he dealt with it was doing drugs and he didn’t know what to do "he felt alone." This song is a good song to start off the Eminem blog, although take caution the song uses strong language and talks about drugs. Although song starts off as a news casting and then goes into detail about a rapper named Proof was shot in a shooting who was Eminem best friend from the there rap group D-12. Starting off the song he talks about how the music industry was like a prison the more songs he came out with critics would not like them and he would lose his freedom. He also talks about a fan wrote him a letter saying "he is praying for him," Eminem says "why would you pray for someone you know nothing about and that no one prayed from him when he was local" also talk about how all the things he had to go through to get famous. The is called careful what you wish for because you don’t know what you’re going to get and when you get it you don’t know what to do with it.
